'Days of Yonder' pre-travelogue on Live FAST

Earlier this year, Dutch artist Nienke Lit sold most of what she owned and took up residence in a former prison. This simplification was part of a greater plan to streamline life in preparation for an upcoming road trip and art project – a three-month motorcycle jaunt through the American West and a grand collaboration of creative women – Days of Yonder.

Physically, the Days of Yonder encompasses a series of “Yonder Pieces” crafted by Nienke and her collaborators on the road, a short film, and a comprehensive “End of Yonder” exhibition incorporating all of DOY’s collaborative yield. In addition to the tangible features of the project, uniting and inspiring women to roll the dice and chase whatever it is they are after rests at the heart of the adventure.

We will be joining Nienke on the road in a couple months to document the trip for both an upcoming ROS issue and LiveFASTmag.com. In the meantime, have a browse through this pre-travelogue photo set from Renée Sara Joppe shot around Nienke's prison abode.

A couple weeks ago we pointed a gold 2003 Toyota Sienna south on I-25 and began the fourteen and a half hour haul from Denver through some of this country's most desolate sprawls to the live music hub of Austin, TX. The Van Lives

Our rally to Austin, TX for Heavy Metal Parking Lot 3, SXSW and the rest of the mania surrounding the festival was as loose and loud as expected. Maybe more so. Full stacks, dirty stalls, open roads, van parties, loose beers and all that good stuff. We will have a photo gallery up shortly and a full account from one of the great crossroads of rock and roll in Issue II, released May 1.

She's Alive.

Just in time for our jaunt to Austin, TX, our own misguided slice of the Almighty Internet is up and running. This evening's Cvlt Nation show at the Marquis Theater in Denver featuring Bongzilla, Lo-Pan, Black Cobra and Against the Grain marks the beginning of our trip, and corresponding feature story - Heavy Metal Mini-Van - for our upcoming second issue.

We'll be bouncing around the Austin area for the next week or so, but a large slab of our trip will be passed in spliffs and Budweisers in East Austin, posted up at The Lost Well for Heavy Metal Parking Lot and a few of the other events at the bar over the course of the weekend. Breeze on by. We're in the back of a gold 2003 Toyota Sienna.
