“No glass other than a small pipe,” was the repeated proclamation from the hired security guard nearest me. He was directing one of the many massive lines winding into Denver’s Civic Center Park yesterday, on the famed and forgettable 4/20 for the lazily titled “Mile High 4:20 Festival.” Slightly less noticeable, behind the dude screaming about God and sinners, was a flashing LED sign about public marijuana use being prohibited. It's a clusterfuck of a scene. None of it makes sense and it's so entertaining. A man with few teeth asks me if a pipe stashed just on the other side of the chainlink fence is mine. It’s not, I tell him. “You think anyone is watching? I don’t smoke weed, but that’s a nice pipe.” - mg

Remembering John Dunsworth
John Dunsworth’s perpetually-drunk trailer park supervisor, Mr. Lahey, is one of the most brilliant TV characters I’ve ever seen. Though John was quick to credit his collaborators with assisting in the character development, one that was a long time in the making, the nuance and mastery was surely his.
For a series so superficially nonsensical, the dialogues, jokes and characters of Trailer Park Boys are outstanding, a large factor in the show’s enormous and enduring popularity. Dunsworth’s Lahey stands atop that peak. Like a good stand-up bit, the hilarity of his character does not diminish with subsequent viewings, but grows more dynamic.
The hour or so I was given to interview John, alongside Patrick Roach (Randy), in April of 2016 stands as one of my most cherished as a journalist. It was plain to see - John was just as remarkable in person as he is on-screen, albeit in a much different manner. In contrast to Mr. Lahey, John was even-keeled and sure-spoken. He was also, however, equally funny, in a drier fashion.
Upon beginning our interview, I was delighted to hear that he really wasn’t interested in discussing his TPB character all that much, but rather his work in Haven - where he played the secretive reporter, Dave Teagues - his many years in regional theatre, politics, activism and the world at large. I remember my first impression being that he was clearly more of a theatre person than a feature film sort; he had more of an “artist” aura about him than “superstar”. He was incredibly observant, and seemed equally wise as Lahey is unhinged. The tributes and accounts from his collaborators, friends and family speak to these qualities and much more.
Rest in Peace, John Dunsworth. Thank you for the endless laughs.
The following photos are outtakes from our second issue, In Favor of Time Travel, shot at Summit Music Hall in Denver during a live performance from John and Pat (Randy and Mr. Lahey) billed as the 4/20 Cheeseburger Picnic. - mg
Soulstone Gathering 2017
A few hiccups on a 26-plus hour drive from southwest France to Poland prevented us from making night one of the 2017 Soulstone Gathering in Krakow, but we sent it deep for night two, which featured a stoner-y barrage of riffs from Somali Yacht Club, Soma, Dopelord, Belzebong and Greenleaf.
Thanks a ton to Jacek and crew for the hard work and for having us along. Story and more photos from Krakow’s loudest in the upcoming Issue IV. - mg
If I had a dime...
Soulstone Gathering photos coming soon.

Lonesome Crowded West
away.
Still hating the Internet. ROS IV in progress.
Desert Bound
Been a while since I've been on here. July (and this half of August, for that matter) came and rushed the hell on out, and I've done my best to avoid the Internet. Currently, packing up and shooting west for Psycho Las Vegas 2017, and what's sure to be one hell of a trip. We'll try to get some crowd pleasers up on the Instagram throughout the weekend. See y'all at the Center Bar. This one his going to be nuts.
We will also have some copies of Issues II and III with us. Buy me a beer and you got a deal.

Electric Funeral Fest II - gallery 1
Electric Funeral II was nuts. Like the dude who just had his girlfriend shoot him from a foot away (into a thick book) with a 50 cal. Like a Frank Reynolds Man-Cheetah. Like a 'Turbo Lover' cover when you're fully on one. (Cheers, Glitter Wizard). Ya know, fuckin’ wild. If you were there, you’re well aware. If ya weren’t, well, don’t make that mistake again. Here is Gallery numero uno.
